Having missed out on signing Blackpool’s Alex Baptiste in the January transfer window, Saunders will make a fresh move to sign him in the summer.
The 27-year-old was a target for Wolves, Blackburn and Leicester. But Blackpool rejected all offers despite being out of contract in the summer.
Saunders is believed to have made an enquiry of around £1million for the defender, but it was knocked back at a fairly early stage so instead he will make another move for him in the future.
“There`s only one player I tried to sign who I see in my plans for next season, to put the first building block in place,” said Saunders to the Express & Star.
He continued: “We made a big offer for him but we will have to wait until the summer to get him. He`s contracted to another team until the summer and he`s not available.
“We never put a written offer in, but it was knocked back verbally. But I`m still pursuing that one and we`ve got to be better defensively.”
One option would be to wait to sign him for free in the summer, or some form of loan move with a view to a permanent deal could be struck if Saunders was desperate to bring him to Molineux sooner rather than later.
