Christian Marques has been training with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ first-team ahead of their Premier League meeting with West Ham United on June 19-21.

According to Birmingham Live, Nuno Espirito Santo called up the 17-year-old and Owen Otasowie, so the pair may have an opportunity to make the squad that travels to London later this month.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Marques joined Wolves from Grasshopper Club Zurich in 2019 and has gone on to make 12 appearances for the U18s (two goals, one assist) and 11 appearances for the U23s.

The central defender, who has represented Switzerland at U15 (six games), U16 (eight games) and U17 (five games) level, signed his first professional contract for Wolves in March. It was a justifiable reward for his progress at youth level and Marques now finds himself on the brink of first-team football.

Conor Coady, Max Kilman, Romain Saiss and Willy Boly are standing in his way of getting minutes under Nuno, but the Wolves manager has named Chem Campbell (aged 17), Terry Taylor (aged 18), Taylor Perry (aged 18), Luke Cundle (aged 18), Lewis Richards (aged 18), Campana (aged 19), Austin Samuels (aged 19), Andreas Söndergaard (aged 19) and Owen Otasowie (aged 19) in the matchday squad this season, so there’s a pathway for young talent if they earn it.
