Late yesterday evening, Wolverhampton Wanderers announced that Managing Director Laurie Dalrymple had left the club with immediate effect, but the confirmation was quick to praise him for the work that he’s done and the role that he’s played in our more recent rebirth.

The statement on the Official Website gave little away other than confirming that his contract had been ‘ended’ and that he’d been placed on ‘garden leave’ with immediate effect and stated that there were no plans to immediately replace him, as chairman Jeff Shi will step up to the Managing Director’s key responsibilities and then lean on the remainder of the setup we have in place.

Shi was quoted as saying.

Having come into the Molineux originally as our head of commercial affairs, he stepped up to the MD position following the departure of Jez Moxey but the curtain has now been brought down after a four and a half year spell at the club.

Sky Sports coverage was quick to point out that there was no suggestion of misconduct or anything like that, but that simply there had been a gradual deterioration in relationship between him and Shi, so they are simply drawing a line under that.

Given the reaction of fans who were naturally curious as to what was going on, I think they will be pleased that it was simply a working relationship issue, as plenty were fans of Dalryample and the efforts he’d gone to in the role.

He certainly won’t be out of work long especially given the relationship he was able to foster with most fans as he’d be an asset for any club.
