“A Starting Point” – Nuno Takes Palace Point But Still Looks For More From Wolves

Sunday afternoon’s Premier League kickoff between Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Selhurst Park was an opportunity for head coach Nuno Espirito Santo to see his side get up and running in our league campaign given our winless start to the 2019/20 campaign.

With a heavy defeat to Chelsea and our first Europa League defeat in midweek, Palace were going to be a tough nut to crack given their performances under Roy Hodgson so far this year and we certainly didn’t have the game go all our way.

Palace opened the scoring in the 46th minute as Leander Dendoncker was credited with an own goal and having seen Romain Saiss sent from the field for two bookable offences, it looked like it was going to be another of those days.

Thankfully for us though, Diogo Jota popped up five minutes into stoppage time to secure the leveller and ensure we travelled home with a point to show for our efforts.

Speaking to the BBC following the game, Nuno said of our efforts.

“This is football. We have the spirit, the heart and the character to believe until the end. The boys were running up and down and tired. The growing of the team relies on these kind of aspects. We are in the situation where we play Thursday and Sunday. It says a lot (about character). We have done it before. In the Championship we managed to win games in the last second. I think we can do better in the first half. We need to reproduce again what we did in the first half to grow as a team. This is a starting point. What we did in the first half, let’s try to do over and over again.”
