Next week, Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman Steve Morgan, CEO Jez Moxey and manager Dean Saunders will draw up the blueprint to make Wolves great once more.

Depending on results at the weekend, this blueprint will either begin with plans in the third tier of English football for the first time since 1989 or if a remarkable set of results transpire to save Wolves, then the rebuilding exercise will start again in the Championship next season.

“Once we have got through this week we will have a meeting. Jez, me and the chairman will draw a plan up – a blueprint – whether we are in the Championship or in League One, to get the club great again. That`s what I want to do. If we don`t stay in the league it will just take me a bit longer.” manager Dean Saunders told the Birmingham Mail.

Premier League parachute payments continue following our relegation from the top flights just 12 months ago, this will mean that Wolves accounts will be helped to the tune of another £16 million next season and two payments of £8 million over the following couple of seasons.

In total Wolves will receive £48 million over four years following last seasons relegation. It certainly helps to cushion the blow.

But with a £25 million wage bill, that simply isn’t sustainable, not in the Championship and certainly not in League One.

Relegation will however trigger a mass exodus from Molineux, for instance, Kaspars Gorkss was only ever going to join on a permanent basis if we survived in the Championship and other players will not remain if we drop down another division.

Saunders continued: “I`d imagine a lot of the players won`t want to stay.

“They won`t want to be playing in League One, so if that happens we will talk about it. But at the moment we have to concentrate on Saturday because it might not happen. Just do what we can control and that`s winning.”
