As expected, Wolverhampton Wanderers have now confirmed the contract extension of Portuguese international wonder kid Ruben Neves.

The 21-year-old midfielder has signed a new and improved contract which will see him stay at the Molineux for the next five seasons. It was the worst kept secret of the summer in many ways but the fans have got what they wanted with the announcement and as is now the norm, fans wait on the next one!

With 42 Championship appearances to his name in 2017/18 as we stormed to the title and promotion into the Premier League, he scored six times and the strike against Derby County helped bag him our Goal of the season award. He also ended the campaign in the EFL Team of the Season alongside Conor Coady and John Ruddy and lifted our Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Season gongs.

Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell told the Official Website.

“Ruben has been an absolutely outstanding addition to the squad since his arrival last summer and is thoroughly deserving of his new deal. It is no secret that there has been interest from other clubs, but Ruben is very mature for his age, incredibly level-headed, and loves being a part of the Wolves family. Ruben has taken everything in his stride since joining us, and I am positive he will continue his form into next season and have a huge impact on the Premier League.”

Speaking himself with him tied down until the summer of 2023, Neves added.

“I’m delighted to sign the new deal with the club. It’s important for me, I feel that the club trust me and I’ll do everything to help the club again. All I do is think about my family so it’s a little step more in my career and our lives.”

Fans exploded with joy when rumours of the deal being done were confirmed in the media, so the official announcement certainly stoked spirits.
