So Wolves are out of the Carling Cup, with a 1-0 away defeat to Manchester United.

Not for the first time and certainly not for the last time, I got a little ahead of myself and was far too positive going into the game.

I really thought we could sneak through this one and with Sir Alex Ferguson making 11 changes from his derby day win over Manchester City and them playing with only 10 men for an hour we really did have a chance, but we failed to take it.

A well worked goal by Michael Owen and Danny Welbeck proved to be the only goal of the match.

Positives, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake got an hour under his belt and Michael Kightly got 75 minutes.

Vital Wolves Comment: The Carling Cup came as probably an un-wanted distraction. It would have been nice to progress in the tournament. But the bigger picture this season will always be to survive in the Premier League and just as a fitness exercise this game will have helped.
