0 apps in 3 years, 6 players ahead in pecking order – Wolves could sell 22 y/o this summer

Connor Ronan has one year remaining on his deal at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but the 22-year-old could be sold this summer as he’s surplus to requirements – Ronan hasn’t made a first-team appearance since 2017 and finds himself behind six players in the pecking order.

The midfielder has amassed so few minutes under Nuno Espirito Santo and could be faced with added competition next season if Wolves strengthen their engine room as expected, so it may suit both parties if Ronan is offloaded when the transfer window opens.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

The 22-year-old joined Wolves from Rochdale in 2014 and has gone on to make 13 appearances in all competitions. Ronan’s last outing in a Wolves shirt came in their EFL Cup defeat to Manchester City (October 24, 2017), so it’s been nearly three years since he featured under Nuno.

The Irishman has resorted to loan moves in a bid to get competitive football – Portsmouth (January 3, 2018 – May 31, 2018), Walsall (August 31, 2018 – January 1, 2019), Dunajska Streda (January 31, 2019 – December 31, 2019), Blackpool (January 17, 2020 – May 31, 2020) – but it’s clear he’s not at the level required to play for Wolves.

Nuno has preferred Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Leander Dendoncker, Romain Saiss, Bruno Jordao and Morgan Gibbs-White this season, so Ronan has too many players standing in his way of getting first-team football. There’s little benefit to keeping him for another year, so Wolves should be open to offers this summer.
